Four-Cleaning

Four-Cleaning

Rugs are essential home decorations that can change the vibe of a physical space, and no one likes it when their favorite rug is stained. There are many different methods to remove dirt and stains from your rug. Read on to know more about four common rug cleaning tips that will keep your rugs spotless.

Removing Dry Dust and Dirt

The simplest way to remove dry dust and dirt from your rug is by shaking them out. If your rug is not very dirty, giving a good shake will be enough to remove most of the dust and dirt. For a smaller rug, you can just pick it up and give it a good shake outside. For a larger rug, you can hang it up and beat it using items like an old tennis racket. Doing so will be sufficient to get rid of most of the dust and dirt on the surface of the rug.

Vacuum Your Rug to Remove Dirt

If your rug still seems dirty after shaking off the dust on the surface, it is likely that dirt is stuck to the fibers of the rug. The dirt will be loosened after shaking, so to remove it completely you will have to use a vacuum cleaner. For regular rugs, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a beater bar as it will remove dirt more thoroughly. Take note not to vacuum the tassels of the rug with the beater bar, as it will destroy the tassels. However, for rugs that are more fragile, luxury rugs, and vintage rugs, it is important to use a vacuum with suction instead as beater bars can be rough on the rug.

How to Wash Your Rug

Depending on the material of your rug, there are different ways to wash it. For rugs that come with a ‘machine washable’ tag, they can usually be washed using a washing machine on a low setting with a gentle detergent. For rugs made using polypropylene fabric, they can be hand-washed using a hose and some gentle detergent. When washing your rugs, the color may bleed, so it is important to wash them individually to prevent staining.

Removing Stains from Your Rug

For rugs that are stained, the most crucial thing to remember is not to rub or add too much water to the stain. You have to first remove any excess signs of the stain carefully using an absorbent material like tissue or a dishcloth. Then, depending on how severe the stain is, you can either add some water or a cleaning solution such as a white vinegar and water solution to the stained part of the rug. After the solution has been absorbed, gently dry the area using a dry cloth or by applying heat using a hairdryer.
